A Calmer, More Comfortable Dental Experience
Virtual Reality in Dentistry – EGO Dental Clinic
At EGO Dental Clinic, patient comfort is not an afterthought — it is part of how we practise dentistry.
As part of our ongoing commitment to improving the dental experience, we are introducing Virtual Reality (VR) distraction therapy as an optional addition to selected treatments.
This is not a replacement for dental care, anaesthesia, or clinical judgement. It is a supportive, non-invasive tooldesigned to help patients feel calmer and more at ease during their appointment.
What Is Virtual Reality in Dentistry?
Dental VR uses a lightweight headset that allows patients to immerse themselves in a calming, guided virtual environment while treatment is carried out.
The software we use has been specifically designed for dental settings, with content tailored to reduce stress and anxiety during dental procedures. Patients remain fully conscious, responsive, and in control at all times.
Why We Introduced This at EGO Dental Clinic
Dental anxiety is common and widely recognised. Scientific research has shown that stress and fear can increase pain perception, while calming distractions may reduce anxiety and improve patient comfort.
VR distraction therapy works by gently redirecting attention away from the clinical environment. For some patients, this may help:
- Reduce feelings of anxiety or tension
- Improve comfort during treatment
- Make time feel as though it passes more quickly
- Create a more positive overall dental experience
Clinical studies have demonstrated that VR distraction can reduce anxiety and pain perception during dental and outpatient procedures, while improving patient satisfaction.
A Thoughtful, Responsible Introduction
We are proud to be among the first dental clinics in the UK to introduce a dentistry-specific VR system into routine clinical care.
Our team has been closely involved in the careful implementation of this technology, and we act as professional ambassadors for its ethical, appropriate, and patient-centred use — always placing safety and transparency first.
Clear, Honest & Patient-First
- VR use is entirely optional
- It does not replace local anaesthetic, sedation, or pain control
- Suitability varies between individuals
- It is not a medical treatment for anxiety disorders
- All equipment is cleaned and disinfected between patients
Your clinician will always discuss whether VR is appropriate for your appointment.
Dentistry, Made More Human
For us, modern dentistry is not only about advanced equipment — it is about how patients feel in the chair.
Virtual Reality is simply one more way we are working to make your visit calmer, more pleasant, and more positive, without exaggeration or unrealistic claims.
If you would like to know whether VR may be suitable for your treatment, please speak to our team.
