Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a kind of dental renewal process. At our dental clinic and practice these crowns are commonly referred to as “caps” as they are to fit on the top of your teeth, either on your existing teeth or above your dental implants.

Dental crown is a tooth shaped cap that is placed over a tooth that has been irreversibly damaged – to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance.

Dental crowns are usually made of porcelain as this material is both strong and non-permeable, hence it is more effective in preventing your teeth from getting stained.

A crown is a very essential component of your dental structure, existing in various shapes and performing a different function for each type of tooth.

It is also responsible for safeguarding the internal portion of your tooth from decay and different kinds of bacteria as well as food particles.

Crowns are also shielded by enamel, which is strong but still susceptible to damage.

Why would I need a dental crown?

A crown may be prescribed by your Dentist:

  • Protect and restore a worn, decayed, cracked, or broken tooth
  • Protect and support a tooth after a very large filling or root canal treatment
  • Cover a dental implant
  • Hold a dental bridge or other prosthetic devices in place
  • Improve your smile by covering a misshapen or severely discolored tooth
  • To cover a root canal treated tooth – if indicated!

What is the procedure?

1.Tooth prepration:

At first, one of our highly qualified dentists numb the area where the treatment is to be done with local anesthesia. Then they re-shape the external structure of your tooth with our new and advanced equipment – Our main GOAL is to perform this procedure as minimal invasive as possible – meaning to drill as little as possible on the treated tooth – We aim to preserve as much of your tooth structure as possible!

2. iTero Scanner and CEREC – CAD/CAM solutions

After doing this, the dentist or the nurse with help or our latest technology scanning system scan the treatment area.

Then we either milled the crown with CEREC – CAD/CAM solutions which taked 20-90minutes or sends the scan to the laboratory, where a permanent crown is made to fit beautiful smile of yours.

If the scan is sent to the laboratory – The dentist will place a temporary crown over your teeth for the time being, that is until your permanent crown has been made for placement.

3. Cementation

Once the permanent crown is created, the placement phase starts. The dentist will first take off the temporary cap and make sure that the prepared tooth is absolutely clean and free from defect. Next, he cement the permanent crown over your tooth.

Further adjustments might be required before the final placement, to guarantee that the crown gives a natural feel in your mouth. Once all of this is done, the crown is fixed into place.

With confidence we give 5 years guarantee on all our EMAX and Zirkonia crowns.
